February 2020 No 1004
“Beautiful, different and proud of it.” In the February 2020 issue, Vogue Paris is honoring a fashion industry that is undergoing a transformation where diversity and freedom are the watchwords.
“The fashion industry is experiencing one of its most exciting eras as it is being hit by an unprecedented wave of openness and progress. Of course, there is an awareness of the urgency of the environmental situation, with an acceleration of the measures taken by most fashion and luxury houses to ensure that the actions of production, distribution and consumption minimize – and eventually stop – impact on nature and the environment. Attitudes are also becoming more relaxed, with people more integrated and more media coverage of difference which lays certain clichés and prejudices to rest and blows apart the traditional beauty expectations,” comments Emmanuelle Alt, editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, on the subject of the awareness of industry players.
In a fashion shoot shot by Inez & Vinoodh, faces Jill Kortleve, a body positive figure, and Fran Summers redefine the standards of beauty. This authenticity is also the one that Rihanna has chosen to highlight through Savage x Fenty and that Julien Dossena has been putting on display for five years at the helm of the iconic house of the 1960s and 1970s, Paco Rabanne. This issue is an ode to freedom as Emmanuelle Alt points out “an unprecedented encouragement to be oneself. Head held high, always.”
