July marks the halfway point of the year. POPEYE’s 50th anniversary year is also entering its second half, and the first feature of the year is “To the South, from Tokyo.”

It’s July. Another hot summer is coming… Tokyo is expected to have the usual terrible weather, as it will be susceptible to the effects of a “double high-pressure system” that extends from the Pacific Ocean and Tibet and overlaps… What even is a “double high-pressure system”? I don’t even want to hear about it, but this time, despite being a double, this feature is a “double area guide” of Tokyo and Kanagawa. It’s different from the Tokyo feature or the Kyoto feature, but a broader city guide. Starting from the south side of Tokyo, we’ll head south using various means of transportation to Yokohama, Shonan, Yokosuka, and the Miura Peninsula. There’s the sea, plenty of nature, and delicious food. Classic architecture, art, a culture of delicious alcohol, and music.

Despite being close to Tokyo, there’s surprisingly a lot we don’t know about it. In fact, we’re not very familiar with the southern edge of Tokyo. The area south of Tokyo is actually full of exotic discoveries, offering a sense of travel and adventure.

If you live in Tokyo or visit Tokyo often, it’s even better if you’re familiar with Shonan and Yokohama. They’re great options for when you feel like taking a trip on a day off. These places are actually easy to get to, but knowing about them makes a big difference, and this is a guide to such fun adventures.
